2021 Porsche Macan and Macan EV: Specs, Prices, and Release Date

2021 Porsche Macan and Macan EV Price

Although the majority of the automotive fans associate Porsche with the famous 911 model, the truth is that the Macan is the best-seller. At the moment, the compact-crossover luxury SUVs are on trend in the industry. Therefore, the German automaker will take the chance to enter the growing class with a refined vehicle. Of course, we are talking about the brand-new 2021 Porsche Macan. The five-door luxury crossover delivers a revised 2.0-liter 4-cylinder powertrain, an all-wheel-drive configuration, and outstanding design with premier interior.

Moreover, the Stuttgart-based carmaker brings even more luxurious variant – Macan S, with 3.0-liter V6 mill under the hood. On top of that, alongside the regular model, 2021 Macan will be offered in the electric version as well. However, all these exclusive features come with a hefty price. Porsche’s luxurious SUV will be more expensive than similar vehicles like BMW X3 or Audi Q5.

2021 Porsche Macan – What’s New?

The upcoming 2021 Porsche Macan will keep most of the exterior features from the previous version. Of course, the automaker will add new exciting elements and refined details to maintain the appearance as fresh as possible. The current model already goes through a severe redesign, so the significant alteration is not necessary at the moment. Still, 2021MY comes with a refined front end and a new single-bar taillight. But, the new model will mostly maintain the traditional Panamera/Cayenne sedan-inspired look. The luxury crossover rolls on 18-inch wheels, while 21-inch wheels will be optional on the S trim level.

Furthermore, the interior gets a 10.9-inch touchscreen, with an updated infotainment system. Besides these tweaks, the engine room will get minor adjustments as well. The most significant change is the available 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine for the Macan S version. Besides, two new colors will be added to the palette – Miami Blue, and Mamba Green Metallic.

Interior

As for the cabin, the Macan offers a high level of comfort and elegance, like no other vehicle in the class. You’ll notice that the ignition is moved to the left, as in other Porsche models. Also, the refined instrumentation is in front of the driver, with the tachometer in the center. On the sides, there’s a brand-new speedometer and digital readout display.

The center of the dash occupies a 10.9-inch touchscreen, which runs all of the vital info about the vehicle. Also, the customers might purchase a smaller steering wheel from the 911 model as an additional feature. The front seats are very supportive and provide outstanding comfort for the passengers. Still, the center console is a bit awkward, but you’ll get it after a while. Of course, with a vehicle like this, you can’t expect great cargo space. 2021MY offers 17.7 cubic feet, while with the 40/20/40 rear configuration, the cargo expands to 53 cubic feet.

Engine Specs

Under the hood of 2021 Porsche Macan will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. This unit produces 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque — enough power to launch the crossover from 0-60 mph in just 6.3 seconds. However, the available Sport Chrono Package boosts the acceleration to an outstanding 6.1 seconds. The new model weighs 3,900 pounds, which is Porsche’s lightest vehicle so far. Furthermore, the S version offers the same powertrain as Cayenne and Panamera siblings.

It’s a 3.0-liter turbo V6 mill, which makes 348 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. The Macan S accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds. This model comes with something that Porsche calls the “hot-V” system, where the engine puts the turbocharger between the cylinder. The “hot-V” gives a better response time and lowers the overall center of gravity. The standard transmission on every trim will be a 7-speed PDL automatic. Also, the AWD is a standard setup, and the 2021MY includes an automated start/stop system, which improves fuel efficiency.

2021 Porsche Macan EV

Besides the regular 2021 Macan, the German company will develop a fully electric version as well. Perhaps it will come out with a different name, but in general, it will be an electrified version of Macan SUV. The company wants to build an electric crossover with Taycan styling cues.

However, the company might decide to go with a different exterior design in comparison to the ICE-powered stablemate. The Macan EV will probably be offered the top-line model at first – turbo and Turbo S. According to the reports, the Turbo S EV will deliver around 700 hp and 750 lb-ft of torque.

Macan EV Will Use The PPE Platform

The electric version of 2021 Macan will ride on a VW Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE). This architecture is built together by Porsche and Audi, and it will be used on the upper mid-size vehicles. The technological package is very similar to the MEB platform, but the PPE adds support for torque vectoring, air suspension, and rear-wheel steering.

Moreover, without the combustion mill upfront, the designing department has the freedom to experiment with the silhouette of the Porsche EVs in general. The electric crossover will deliver a recognizable design, despite the similar bodywork to the standard Macan. However, it won’t have a distinctive roofline as Cayenne Coupe, because the Stuttgart-based wants the luxurious EV to be practical and a proper family vehicle.

2021 Porsche Macan Price And Release Date

2021 Porsche Macan will have a starting price of around $51,000. The price includes $1,000 of destination charge. The luxurious variant, Macan S, will cost significantly more. The MSRP of this model starts at almost $60,000. Of course, with the price comes more equipment and unique features. The starting price of the base EV version is still unknown. But, the Macan Turbo EV and Turbo S will come with a price sticker of $150,900 and $185,000, respectively. The new Macan will be available by the end of 2020.
