2022 BMW X7 Is Getting Facelift and PHEV Version

It’s been a while since BMW finally entered the full-size segment, so it’s no wonder that updates are on the way. The 2022 BMW X7 is about to get a mid-cycle refresh and from what we know so far, changes will happen in many aspects. All of them should make this large SUV even better, great enough to compete with the biggest rival, Mercedes-Benz GLS, as well as with other models in the class, such as Lexus LX, Lincoln Navigator etc.

From what we know so far, the focus of this update will be on the styling. We are about to see novelties in various aspects, but mostly at the front. Also, big novelties are expected under the hood, where plug-in hybrid versions are expected to debut. On the other side, the cabin probably won’t change that much.

The updated 2022 BMW X7 is expected to hit the market next fall.

2022 BMW X7 Redesign

The upcoming facelift will bring a lot of changes but there’s no doubt that the focus will be on the front end. The testing model has been spotted and it still wears covers at both ends. So, we know where to expect changes. The front end will bring the most changes and the headlights look very intriguing.

It may be the cover, but rendering photos show a pretty odd headlights design, which comes with two separate housings on both sides. It looks very retro but we are not sure if it really suits a flagship sedan. Therefore, we rather think that this is some kind of BMW’s jokes, a way to provoke spy photographers. We rather believe that updates will be subtle, with minor tweaks to the areas like headlights, bumpers etc. Also, we don’t expect to see that huge grille that characterizes M3 and M4 models.

Of course, we also expect to see typical mid-cycle updates, such as new wheels, new color options etc.

Interior

Bigger interior changes won’t happen. Simply, the Bavarian carmaker doesn’t practical bigger interior changes during a production cycle and this model shouldn’t be an exception. After all, the current cabin looks really good. It’s not as flashy and kitschy as the GLS, but the dashboard looks pretty good. More importantly, it features excellent build quality and really nice materials. Also, there is a fair amount of tech goodies, which makes the cabin look even more upscale.

Besides excellent quality, this SUV is also pretty spacious. It comes with three rows of seats and all three can accommodate adults. Furthermore, the cargo area also offers decent numbers. You may count on about 12.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. Once you fold it down, the capacity goes up to 48.6 cubic feet. The total volume goes around 90 cubic feet. The numbers are good, but many rivals offer more cargo space.

Features

Like any other mid-cycle update, this one will also bring novelties in terms of standard and available equipment. Still, we don’t expect to see anything significant. Most of the things will remain the same and the best we could see is a couple of new things in each trim level. After all, the current model already offers a pretty generous list of standard and available features.

For reference, the 2021 model comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, a 10-speaker stereo, HD Radio, satellite radio, a panoramic moonroof, quad-zone automatic climate control, remote start, proximity keyless entry, ambient interior lighting etc. Additionally, you can pay extra for things like gesture control, 16-speaker and 20-speaker sound systems, a driving information recorder etc.

2022 BMW X7 Engines

The current engines will carry on in the 2022 BMW X7. Therefore, base versions will continue to use a 3.0-liter turbo inline-six, which puts out around 335 horsepower. Of course, you may also count on the M50i model, which features a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V6 with a max output of 523 horsepower. The same engine is available in a version with a max output of 600 horsepower, which is reserved for the Alpina XB7.

For the next year, the novelties are expected in terms of electrification and the latest reports suggest two plug-in hybrid versions in the offer. Allegedly, one of them will be reserved for the new 2022 BMW X7 M. That setup would be based on the V8 engine and should feature a max output of more than 700 horsepower.

Of course, all versions would use the same 8-speed automatic transmission.

2022 BMW X7 Release Date and Price

We expect to see the 2022 BMW X7 a little bit earlier than usual but the officials are still quiet about the launch date. On the other side, we don’t expect to see a bigger price increase, so base versions should go around 76.000 dollars.
