2022 Tata Safari Preview: Review, Price, Changes

2022 Tata Safari featured

SUVs are becoming more and more popular in India as well and that’s why Tata came with a completely new model, called Safari. This SUV was introduced last year and it has brought a completely new design, which stands out in many ways. Once again, Tata borrowed many design solutions from Land Rover models and offered a capable SUV, which offers strong off-road capabilities and combines them with a decent level of luxury. The 2022 Tata Safari will represent the second production year, so we don’t expect to see any particular changes.

All in all, you may count on an SUV that capable but also very practical. Although essentially compact in size, this SUV comes with three rows of seats and can accommodate up to seven passengers. Also, the cabin looks very modern and comes with all kinds of tech goodies. The engine is capable as well, so it’s had to find any major drawback, especially when considering the price tag.

We expect to see the 2022 Tata Safari sometime late in the year.

2022 Tata Safari Redesign

The 2022 Tata Safari will represent the second production year, as we already mentioned. Therefore, we don’t expect to see any bigger change compared to the initial version. This is a brand-new SUV and a good thing to know is that it borrows a lot of design solutions and technologies from the smaller Harrier. In other words, it is based on Land Rover’s platform and uses a lot of parts that can be found in models like Discovery Sport, Ranger Rover Evoque etc.

Base models feature front-wheel drive, while the AWD system is available too. In terms of styling, the new model follows the brand’s latest design language. It is characterized by narrow headlights, which are integrated into the dashboard. Also, the whole car features a lot of sharp lines, and our overall impression is that the vehicle looks really modern by any standard. The next year shouldn’t bring any particular change, though there is always a chance to see minor updates like new color options.

Interior

On the inside, you can find a modern cabin design, which features a dashboard that’s attractive and equipped with all kinds of tech features. We particularly like the fact that many controls have remained physical. The infotainment system is easy to use and works great. The dashboard features lots of horizontal lines, which provide that classic look, while materials are mostly very nice and look quite premium.

Besides its attractive design, this cabin is also quite practical. Although we are talking about a compact SUV, which features 107.9 inches in wheelbase. However, that was enough room for Tata engineers to install three rows of seats. Of course, the third row isn’t particularly comfortable but can be pretty useful sometimes.

Features

What’s interesting about the current model is that it comes in numerous versions. We don’t expect that the 2022 Tata Safari will be any different. So, you may count on a wide choice of trim levels in the offer. Base versions will feature a quite basic list of standard equipment, but still with a decent list of safety and driver-assistance features. Some of them are dual front airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold Control, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors etc.

On the other hand, range-topping models will come with a pretty long list of standard equipment, including lots of tech goodies. Some of the highlights are front, side and curtain airbags, hill-descent control, terrain response modes, an electronic parking brake, 18-inch machined alloy wheels, Xenon HID headlights, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with iRA connected car tech, a 9-speaker JBL audio system, a 7.0-inch digital display in the instrument cluster, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, beige leatherette upholstery, a panoramic sunroof etc.

2022 Tata Safari Engine

Things under the hood won’t change and the 2022 Tata Safari will continue with just one engine on the offer. That is a 2.0-liter turbodiesel, which puts out around 170 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. That is a pretty familiar engine, which comes from Fiat and offers a pretty good balance between dynamics and economy.  The engine comes in pair with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. As we already mentioned, front-wheel drive is standard, while we expect that AWD versions will be on the offer as well.

2022 Tata Safari Release Date and Price

We expect to see the 2022 Tata Safari sometime in the last quarter of the year. The base price should go around ₹15 00 000, which would be around 20.000 dollars.
