The automotive history is full of interesting design and when it comes to SUVs, the original Excursion definitely takes a special place. We are talking about a model that has been introduced in 1999 and which was produced until 2006. Despite the good reception, sales eventually started to drop, mostly because of low mpg ratings. These days, it seems like the market has the potential for such an SUV again. Therefore, it’s no wonder that we are hearing a lot of reports about the 2022 Ford Excursion.
Considering the age difference, this comeback would definitely bring significant novelties but the overall design approach would remain the same. Once again, we would see a Super Duty-based SUV, which is extremely capable and offers tremendous amounts of space on the inside. At this point, this is just a rumor, so take the following paragraphs with a big reserve.
2022 Ford Excursion Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the overall design approach wouldn’t be much different compared to the original. We would see a huge SUV, based on the F-250 Super Duty pickup truck. The two models would share most of their parts, particularly in terms of mechanics. The chassis would be the same, as well as the suspension setup, which may be rigid by today’s standards, but offers amazing benefits in terms of payload and towing.
When it comes to the exterior design, the first thing that comes to mind is the size. This is the biggest SUV Ford has ever made and we may expect the new model to become even bigger. The original was good for a little bit more than 137 inches in wheelbase, which is really impressive. Still, keep in mind that the new generation of Chevy Suburban is just three inches shorter, so the margin isn’t as big as some would expect. We believe that the distance between axles could easily go over 140 inches.
Styling
When it comes to styling, we don’t expect surprises. The original model completely followed the design language of its Super Duty counterpart, so we expect the same from the 2022 Ford Excursion. Therefore, the front face would same or very similar to the current F-250. Of course, the rest of the body would come in a little bit different manner, with a typical wagon body that is extremely long and provides a tremendous amount of space.
Interior
The first thing that comes to mind with this SUV is the interior space. Here, we count on nothing less than exceptional amounts of legroom in all three rows, while the cargo area should be even more impressive. We won’t speculate about numbers at this point.
On the other side, the dashboard design should once again bring similarities with the F-250. We expect to see pretty much the same layout, which is rugged and very tricky but ensures excellent durability and years of exploitation. Of course, this model may come wrapped up with a little bit finer materials and more tech features. Other than that, things should remain pretty much the same.
2022 Ford Excursion Engine
This aspect definitely won’t bring surprises. So, we expect that base models will come with a smaller, 6.2-liter gasoline V8 engine, which puts out around 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. We count on a bigger, recently introduced 7.3-liter unit, which features a max output of 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. Both engines would come in pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Many believe that the new 2022 Ford Excursion could also come equipped with the well-known 6.6-liter turbodiesel. This monstrous engine puts out around 475 horsepower and a tremendous 1.050 pound-feet of torque and also comes paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Ford Excursion Release Date
At this point, the 2022 Ford Excursion comeback is just a rumor. However, many believe it could come back already in the next year. We expect things to become clearer about this arrival soon.
