2023 GMC Hummer SUV Is Almost There

2023 GMC Hummer SUV

These are some different times. Once known as one of the thirstiest vehicles around, the Hummer is now environment friendly, super-efficient. Of course, we are talking about the all-electric Hummer, which already debuted in the form of pickup. Now, it’s time for an SUV version, which will most likely come as the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV. At this point, the officials are still quiet about the exact launch date, but we know some of the key details about the new SUV.

Of course, the most interesting is the powertrain. The SUV will feature less power than the truck but that won’t be the only difference. It will also be smaller and packed with a smaller battery. Just like in the case of pickup, the Edition 1 will be the first variant to come. The rest of the lineup will arrive a little bit later, probably in the spring of 2023.

2023 GMC Hummer SUV Design

When it comes to the overall design, the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV will have most things in common with the recently introduced pickup version. This particularly refers to the mechanics, though the aesthetics will be shared as well. Mechanically, this SUV will also be based on GM’s new Ultium architecture, which will underpin all future electric models of this company. Visually, the two models will feature the same front end, while the SUV is about to come with a little bit different wheels design.

Of course, it will feature a different body too, while one of the most interesting things will be its size. It will feature an 8.9-inch shorter wheelbase, which won’t affect just the interior space, but also the battery capacity, which will be smaller.

The new SUV will be available with the off-road package. This suite will include features like an underbody camera, 35-inch mud-terrain tires, skid plates, rock sliders, a front electronically locking differential, rear motors that can electronically mimic a locked diff, heavy duty half-shafts etc. It will cost around $5.000.

Interior

The shorter wheelbase won’t bother passengers too much, as the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV will offer plenty of legroom in both rows. Besides plenty of space, the model’s square shape will also provide a generous amount of cargo volume. Just like the pickup, this version will also be offered in a variant with a removable roof.

The dashboard and the whole front part of the cabin will look the same as in the pickup. So, you may count on the familiar layout, which combines simple futuristic design elements with the latest tech features. Of course, the massive infotainment screen dominates the dashboard, while we also like those elements like moon footprint and Sea of Tranquility details, which pay a tribute to the GM’s role in Apollo missions. To remind you, GM participated in the creation of the lunar rover back in the day.

2023 GMC Hummer SUV Powertrain and Performance

Just like in the case of the pickup, the most capable version will come first. That model will come as the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV Edition 1 but, interestingly, it will feature less power than the pickup sibling. From what we know so far, the max output will go around 830 horsepower. Despite the “lack” of power, this SUV won’t be slow at all. It will need just 3.5 seconds to hit 60 mph. Due to the shorter wheelbase, the battery capacity will also be reduced. At this point, we don’t know the capacity, but we know that the company claims a max range of around 300 miles.

The rest of the lineup will arrive in 2023 and from what we know so far, these versions will all feature a max output of 625 horsepower. Details about the battery capacity are, once again, unavailable, but we expect that the max range will go around 250 and 300 miles, depending on the version.

2023 GMC Hummer SUV Release Date and Price

We expect that the initial 2023 GMC Hummer SUV Edition 1 will arrive by the end of this year, while the rest of the lineup should come in 2023. The Edition 1 will cost around 105.000 dollars, while the base versions will cost around $80.000. Models like Tesla Model X, Rivian R1T and Bollinger B1 will be some of the key competitors.
