2024 BMW X3 Redesign: What to Expect?

The X3 has always been considered one of the most all-rounded compact SUVs on the market, with a great balance between performance and practicality. Although it’s been around for a while, the current generation is still competitive, especially after the 2022 refresh. However, the company works on a full redesign, which will bring us a completely new 2024 BMW X3. The new model is already in the testing phase and it should arrive by the end of this year.

So far, the company has been trying to keep details about the new X3 a secret. However, we managed to bring some conclusions after seeing the test mule for camouflage. Although all-new, the next generation will bring mostly evolutionary changes, where the main differences will be in terms of styling and interior design. On the other hand, the new model will continue to ride on the CLAR platform, while powertrain options won’t change significantly either.

We expect that the 2024 BMW X3 will hit the market by the end of this year.

2024 BMW X3 Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 BMW X3 will have a complete makeover. We are about to see the next generation of the compact SUV and from what we know so far, changes will be mostly evolutionary. Simply, the outgoing generation is already pretty impressive, so there is no reason for some radical changes.

The 2024 BMW X3 will ride on the same but notably updated CLAR platform, with slight revisions regarding chassis setup and the introduction of some new technologies. Considering that the current model is already pretty impressive in terms of athleticism and overall driving experience, we don’t believe that the new generation could feature significantly different driving manners.

On the other hand, we will see a completely new exterior design. Some sources suggest that the new model will grow in size for a bit and get a longer wheelbase. In terms of styling, the test mule is still under heavy camouflage but we can see that the overall shape won’t change all that much. Naturally, the main changes will happen at the front, where the new generation is about to bring a completely new face, with a more prominent grille, revised headlights, and more aggressive bumpers with larger air intakes.

Interior

The inside of the new generation is also about to get a complete makeover. So far, the Bavarian carmaker has been keeping it under camouflage as well, but we’ve managed to see a couple of key points. Of course, one of the most important changes will be the implementation of the company’s latest approach regarding tech features, which includes a curved panel with two integrated screens, just like in other new models from the Bavarian manufacturer. Although details are still unavailable, we expect to see a 12.3-inch instrument cluster in a combination with a 14.9-inch infotainment screen. Other than the new screens, we can see a completely new center console, where the key difference is the new shifter. Instead of a more traditional layout, the new one features a minimalist design, integrated into the console. Another notable change we can see is the new flat-bottom steering wheel.

Considering the expected size increase, we could also see a more spacious cabin. Still, even if this doesn’t happen, it shouldn’t be an issue, considering that the current generation already offers one of the most spacious and practical cabins in the class. It comes with a couple of very spacious rows of seats, which accommodate adults with ease. Moreover, the current generation also features one of the largest cargo areas in the class.

2024 BMW X3 Engines

The current model comes with three powertrain options on offer for the North American market and we expect them to carry on. Still, the base 2.0-liter turbo-four, which currently puts out around 248 horsepower, might come in pair with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to improve efficiency and overall performance.

The same thing is possible with the optional turbocharged inline-six, which comes in two output variants. Currently, there is the M40 version with 382 horsepower, while the X3 M features a max output of 473 horsepower. Moreover, in the M Competition model, this 3.0-liter inline-four is tuned up to 503 horsepower.

Some sources speculate that a plug-in hybrid version could also be introduced to the North American market, based on a turbo-four engine.

When it comes to the transmission, we do not doubt that the new generation will carry on with the excellent 8-speed automatic.

2024 BMW X3 Release Date and Price

We expect that the all-new 2024 BMW X3 will hit the market by the end of this year. The current model starts at around 47.000 dollars and we don’t believe that the new generation could bring some major price increase. Of course, the competition remains the same, mainly in the form of German rivals Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.
