2022 GMC Jimmy Comeback Rumors and Expectations

Despite that the current car market is mostly about crossovers, there is still a big number of those who rather prefer traditional body-on-frame SUVs. Simply, unibody SUVs are far inferior in terms of off-roading and utility, so it’s no wonder that many carmakers are bringing back such vehicles. The Wrangler has a traditionally big fanbase, while Toyota 4Runner is also making some pretty impressive sales numbers, despite the age. Of course, the legendary Ford Bronco is coming back, so it’s no wonder that GM prepares an answer too. It will come in the form of 2022 GMC Jimmy, which will hit the market next year.

At this point, we know for sure that the new model will be a genuine BoF SUV, based on GM’s familiar platform that underprints Canyon and Colorado. Also, we expect that it will be designed in a little bit different manner compared to Bronco and Wrangler. The engine offer should be generous and could include a diesel version as well.

2022 GMC Jimmy Redesign

In the past, the Jimmy name was tightly connected with Chevy Blazer, as it’s rebadged version. The new Blazer is a crossover, so the two models will no more have too many things in common. The new 2022 GMC Jimmy will rather share its mechanics with the Canyon and will be a genuine BoF SUV.

The exact details about dimensions are still unknown, but we expect typical size for the mid-size segment, which would roughly mean around 115 inches in wheelbase. Unlike the Bronco and Wrangler, it probably won’t be available in a short-wheelbase variant, with two doors and those fancy details like removable doors and top. Instead, it will rather target those buyers who need a three-row SUV and don’t have much choice, as the 4Runner is currently the only vehicle of this kind in the offer.

However, this doesn’t mean that the new 2022 GMC Jimmy won’t be as capable as rivals, in terms of off-road performances. Moreover, count on hi-performance versions in the offer as well, which would come with all kinds of mechanical and visual upgrades.

Styling

When it comes to the styling, we are pretty sure that the new 2022 GMC Jimmy will follow the brand’s latest design language you can see on models like Sierra, Yukon etc. This means a rather boldface, with lots of rectangular shapes, as well as with massive grille and bumper. The rest of the body will feature a typical SUV layout, with a spacious and squarish wagon-like body style, which ensures tons of space on the inside.

Naturally, the aforementioned performance versions would come with all kinds of additional styling details, which would accentuate the off-road performance character.

Interior

When it comes to the interior design, the first thing we should mention is that this will be a pretty spacious SUV, more practical compared to Bronco and Wrangler. You may count on three rows of seats, where the first two rows would be pretty spacious and comfortable, while the third one would be typically tight for the segment. The cargo area should offer some pretty respectable numbers as well. Also, the boxy shape will bring lots of benefits in terms of loading and unloading large and bulky objects.

The dashboard design should also take a lot of inspiration from the bigger siblings, particularly from the new Yukon. We count on fine materials and attractive design, while the amount of standard and available equipment should be respectable as well. We don’t expect hi-end Denali trim to come with a different dashboard design, which is the case with the new full-size SUV, but this model will certainly feature a lot of exclusive details.

2022 GMC Jimmy Engines

When it comes to powertrain, we are pretty sure that base models will come equipped with a well-known V6 engine. Of course, we are talking about a 3.6-liter unit, which puts out around 310 horsepower. Still, we wouldn’t be surprised if we see a turbo-four version in the offer as well. This one would feature a 2.7-liter unit, which delivers 310 horsepower and a pretty impressive max torque of 350 pound-feet.

Some sources also suggest a diesel version. However, we probably wouldn’t see a 2.8-liter unit from Canyon, but rather a 3.0-liter V6 from Sierra and Silverado. It is a V6 turbodiesel, which puts out 277 horsepower and a massive 460 pound-feet of torque. Finally, some sources also suggest the possibility to see V8 engines in hi-performance models, though you should take this with a reserve.

2022 GMC Jimmy Release Date and Price

The 2022 GMC Jimmy will probably arrive some time in the second half of next year. We count on a competitive price, which means that base models should go around 30.000 dollars. As we already mentioned, key competitors will be models like Toyota 4Runner, Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco etc.
