A lot of amazing reports have been coming in the past few months from Toyota and the last one is that the next-generation of the popular SUV is definitely coming by the end of next year. Despite being pretty old, the current generation is still extremely popular. Moreover, it is more popular than ever and that’s because it’s the only genuine mid-size SUV on the market. While the rest of competitors have switched to a car-like unibody platform, this one still rides on a truck-based body-on-frame platform, which brings several benefits, especially in terms of off-road performances. An amazing thing to know is that the 2022 Toyota 4Runner will stick to this design solution.
Therefore, we may expect a genuine BoF SUV, which will stand out from the crowd with exceptional off-road performances and capabilities. Of course, the upcoming redesign will bring novelties and improvements in all aspects, so the new model is expected to be more refined, more comfortable and more efficient. A completely new styling, as well as the interior design, seems like a certain thing as well.
2022 Toyota 4Runner Redesign
The upcoming overhaul is about to bring a full load of novelties. Considering that the current generation has been around since 2009, there is no doubt that the upcoming model will bring significant improvements in all aspects. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. Of course, we are talking about the new TNGA-F architecture, which will debut in the new Tundra, and which will bring improvements in all aspects. It will be stiffer, but also lighter. Also, we expect it will significantly improve the driving experience, which isn’t particularly great on the current model when it comes to on-road drive.
Still, the 2022 Toyota 4Runner will definitely remain focused on off-road performances. Therefore, it will be rugged and capable, while we also count on a hi-performance TRD Pro version, which includes all kinds of upgrades, both mechanical and aesthetical.
Styling and Exterior Design
The current model hasn’t changed too much for all these years of production. So, we count on a significantly different styling of the new model. It’s hard to talk about details at the moment, but we presume that the new styling philosophy will be slightly different compared to Toyota’s crossovers. This means a little bit more rugged appearance, with accentuated BoF character. We presume more things about the new styling will be known after we see the next-generation Tundra, which is about to hit the market in the last quarter of next year.
In terms of size, the 2022 Toyota 4Runner might grow a little bit. Still, we don’t expect significant changes, as too longer wheelbase and overall length would compromise off-road performances. Still, a couple of inches seems natural, as it would be highly beneficial in terms of interior space.
Naturally, the upcoming redesign will bring a completely new interior design as well. If you look at the current model, it looks pretty basic, despite that the overall quality is great and that the dash is built to last for ages. However, we presume the new model will incorporate a little bit of finer materials, which would provide a more upscale look. Also, we count on loads of new technologies. The recent update has brought Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a few more tech goodies. So, we expect from the new 2022 Toyota 4Runner to keep adding new tech goodies.
Also, we count on a little bit more interior space. The current model seems okay in the first couple of rows, but the third one is very tight. A couple of cubic feet in the cargo area would be nice as well.
2022 Toyota 4Runner Engines
When it comes to the engine lineup, we count on a lot of novelties. The current model comes with a good-old 4.0-liter V6, as well as with a little bit outdated 5-speed automatic transmission. For the new model, we expect to see something more refined and more efficient. Some sources suggest a new turbo V6 engine but if you ask 4Runner lovers and enthusiasts, most of them would like to see a V8 engine, while some suggest a diesel option as well. Finally, it won’t be a surprise if we see a hybrid version in the offer as well.
2022 Toyota 4Runner Release Date and Price
According to the latest reports, the 2022 Toyota 4Runner might arrive by the end of next year. The current model starts around 36.000 dollars and we don’t expect a significant increase for the new model. As we already mentioned, the current model doesn’t have competitors in its size class. Still, there is a compact Jeep Wrangler, as well as more expensive full-size models like Nissan Armada, Chevy Tahoe or Ford Expedition, which could be considered as alternatives. Still, the 4Runner offers superior off-road performances.

Double the sq ft of manufacturing plant cause this is want people want
next year! insane
It would be really nice to have a four runner prime (plug-in hybrid) so you could use it as your regular driver around town on electric and take it off into the wilds on gas.
More comfortable seats similar to Rav4. Slightly higher driver & front passenger headroom that allow higher seating position for taller drivers. Not like sitting on crossovers that have you sit on the floor unable to bend knees. Remove the Washer & Dryer knobs from Radio. Its still the Best SUV !!
