The compact crossover class is one of the most competitive classes in the automotive industry. There’s a lot of impressive vehicles, and with every season the competition is becoming more fierce. But, the Mazda CX-5 stands out of the crowd. Of course, the first thing you’ll notice is the appearance. However, the Japanese crossover provides much more than that. The forthcoming 2021 Mazda CX-5 delivers class-leading handling, outstanding driving dynamics, and a comfortable interior.

Also, there are certain rumors regarding the complete facelift for the 2022MY. Well, that does make sense, since the current generation is one the streets since 2017. We could see a couple of changes to the engine room as well. Anyhow, we will come back to this review with more intro, when the Japanese company releases further news. But, even though the 2021 Mazda CX-5 won’t get significant improvement, it’s probably one of the best looking vehicles in the segment. Furthermore, the chassis is very impressively built, while the suspension setup includes outstanding handling and the best driving experience in the class.

Still, we could see a couple of minor changes, just to keep the crossover in line with the competition. The front side of the vehicle could be modified, perhaps. Also, new color options are always a good choice. Other than that simple alterations, the rest will stay pretty much the same.

The cabin of forthcoming 2021 Mazda CX-5 will get most of the updates. The dashboard could get a new look, while the infotainment upgrades are certain to happen. Well, the current model o the CX-5 crossover features a pretty old, and out of date infotainment system. So, the Japanese company will introduce new software, to make it easier for the drivers.

Still, the interior layout will stay intact. The dimensions as well, but that’s not a bad thing. Mazda’s crossover provides generous space, although CX-5 isn’t exactly the most spacious model in the class. The cargo could be bigger as well, but we will have to wait for 2022MY for these improvements.

The upcoming compact crossover ill significantly extends the list of equipment. 2021 Mazda CX-5 features a 7-inch touchscreen, 4-speaker audio system, HD Radio, two USB port, and Bluetooth. Also, count on optional tech like dual-zone automatic climate control, an additional 8-inch display, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 6-speaker audio system, navigation, satellite radio and much more. Moreover, Mazda’s new model will include an impressive safety as well.

The standard safety suite consists of a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keeps assist, and lane departure warning. On top of that, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection are available as well. The upper trims add a head-up display, traffic sign recognition, front/rear parking sensors, and a surround-view camera system.

Under the hood of 2021 Mazda CX-5 will be a brand-new SkyActive X unit. However, the US version will keep the same options as the current version of the compact crossover. In other words, the customers will get a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, which is good for 187 hp. Well, this mill will satisfy most of the needs of regular customers.

However, if you need something more powerful, there’s a turbocharged variant, which produces 227 hp (250 hp using premium fuel). Also, the available option will be a diesel engine, with a peak output of 168 hp. All engines will be connected to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Release Date and Price

According to the reports from the company, 2021 Mazda CX-5 will arrive in the dealerships in October of 2020. As for the price, it won’t be much different from the ongoing version. So, expect that the base version of the CX-5 compact crossover will have a price of around $25,000.
