2023 Best SUV Models Worth Waiting For ( Top 10 )

SUVs and crossovers have taken over the automotive market long ago and these days, it’s hard to imagine any other segment to come even close in terms of popularity. Therefore, it’s no wonder that many manufacturers are now completely focused on vehicles of these types, so much that new models keep coming and coming. The next year’s market will be more crowded than ever.

The next year will be pretty interesting, as there is a whole bunch of novelties to come. Of course, we will see some brand-new models, especially electric SUVs. Models like Mercedes EQE SUV and Genesis GV60 are coming as brand-new models, while we are also about to see an all-electric version of the super-capable Porsche Macan. Some EV models already arrived, such as Subaru Solterra and Cadillac Lyriq.

Things won’t be any less interesting with ICE-powered SUVs. The legendary Lexus RX is getting a full redesign and it will come with four new powertrain options, with three of them being hybridized. Several models are getting important updates, such as Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Kia Telluride, and Bronco Sport. The first two will get mid-cycle refreshes, while the Bronco Sport is expected to come with a new hybrid powertrain. Finally, the recently-introduced Jeep Wagoneer is about to get a long-wheelbase version, which will provide more passenger and cargo space.

So, we’ve decided to make a quick list of some of the best SUV models for the 2023 model year, which are definitely worth waiting for.

2023 Mercedes EQE SUV

The German manufacturer continues to expand its EQ lineup with a new all-electric vehicle. Now it’s the turn for another SUV and this time, we are about to see an SUV iteration of the EQE model, which will compete in the mid-size segment.

Of course, the new SUV will share a lot of parts with the recently-introduced sedan. This particularly refers to the powertrain, which will be the same. Base models will come with a setup that delivers a total output of 469 horsepower and 633 pound-feet of torque. The more powerful model, which will probably wear the AMG badge, will feature a max output of 617 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque.

On the other hand, details about the battery are still unavailable. We presume it will be slightly bigger compared to the sedan sibling, so we may expect some quite respectable numbers regarding the max range.

The test mule has been spotted and from what we can see, the company will continue to use its familiar design language, so the front end will come with the same headlights and grille designs. The overall layout will come in a typical SUV manner, while there is always room for exclusive details.

The 2023 Mercedes EQE SUV will arrive by the end of this year and from what we know so far, it will be assembled in Alabama. Pricing is yet to be announced.

2023 Porsche Macan EV

The Macan has been Porsche’s best-selling model for the last five years and now we are about to see its all-electric iteration. The new model is on the way and while the company keeps most details a secret, some aspects of the new crossovers are already known.

One of the certain things is the PPE architecture, the same one that underpins the Audi A6 e-tron. This platform will bring many benefits, starting from the 800-volt battery technology, which will allow DC fast charging of up to 270 kW. Details about the battery capacity are still unavailable but the company promises a significantly longer ranger compared to Taycan, which can make 227 miles on a single charge.

The same is with the powertrain. We still don’t have the numbers but we may presume that the new SUV will be offered in various outputs. Moreover, the company will probably use familiar badged for its trim levels, such as S, GTS etc.

Visually, the overall shape won’t be different compared to the gasoline-powered Macan. The key differences will be at the front, where we expect to see Taycan-inspired headlights and front face.

We expect that the 2023 Porsche Macan EV will hit the market sometime in the next year, with a starting price of around 80.000 dollars.

2023 Genesis GV60

Hyundai’s luxury brand is expanding its lineup and with the latest 2023 Genesis GV60, it is entering the luxury EV segment. This compact crossover has a lot of aces up its sleeve to compete with the toughest rivals in the segment.

Visually, you can notice a familiar headlights design, while the trapezoidal grille, found in more conventional models, has been replaced with a smaller one that covers the front bumper only. The cabin feels luxurious and refined, while the amount of tech features is pretty generous.

Still, the powertrain is the most interesting aspect of this crossover. Two versions are available. The base model comes with a couple of electric motors, providing a total output of 314 horsepower. The Performance version puts out 429 horsepower and also comes with the Boost model, which increases to 483 horsepower. So, it’s no wonder that 0-60 sprint takes no more than 3.4 seconds. Add to this pretty spry handling and it becomes obvious that the Korean carmaker wants to compete with the best performers in the class, such as the Porsche Macan.

When it comes to the battery, all models will come with a 77.4-kWh pack, which will ensure between 235 and 248 miles, depending on the version you choose. Also, you may count on a pretty advanced DC fast charger, which needs just 18 minutes to charge 80% of the battery.

The 2023 Genesis GV60 starts slightly under 60.000 dollars.

2023 Kia Telluride

Kia’s mid-size SUV has been around for a while and it quickly established a very good position on the market. Thanks to the fantastic value for money, it is among the most popular models in the class. However, the Korean manufacturer wants more than that, so it’s no wonder that the 2023 Kia Telluride receives a mid-cycle update.

This is a typical facelift, which brings a notably updated styling. You can notice new designs on the grille, headlights, front bumper etc. Novelties can be noticed on the rear end as well, while the cabin also brings big novelties. This particularly refers to the new digital instrument cluster and infotainment screens, designed in the same way as those integrated units that can be found in Cadillac Escalade and various Mercedes-Benz models.

On the other hand, there are no changes under the hood. The 2023 Kia Telluride will continue with proven and reliable mechanics, starting from a familiar 3.8-liter V6, which puts out 291 horsepower. The engine comes coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the whole system feels pretty refined, while the fuel economy is typical for the class (20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway).

The new model will arrive later this year, with a starting price of around 35.000 dollars.

2023 Cadillac Lyriq Electric SUV

Cadillac has just entered the world of EVs with a brand new crossover, which comes as the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq. The new model comes with a striking design, which promises a lot in other aspects. We like its sleek layout and the fact that there aren’t many things in common with gasoline-powered Cadillac models.

Things feel as impressive on the inside. There, you will find a rich interior, highlighted by an attractive dashboard design that utilizes the same integrated screens as the Escalade. The rest of the cabin looks attractive as well, while the materials are really fine.

In terms of powertrain, there are two versions of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq. Base models feature a single electric motor on the rear axle, which puts out 340 horsepower. That’s plenty enough for strong performance but driving enthusiasts would probably opt for the dual-motor version, which adds another electric motor to the front axle. In this case, the max output goes up to 500 horsepower.

The battery is good for about 102 kWh, which is enough to provide 312 miles of range in the single-motor version. Of course, DC fast charging is available, but we still don’t have information about the exact charging time.

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq starts at around 63.000 dollars.

2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

The super-sporty SUV is getting some pretty nice updates for the next year. We are about to see some mild but pretty nice exterior updates, particularly at the front end. There, we will see some slight revisions to the headlights, grille and bumper. Still, the overall look won’t change drastically.

Besides the new styling, we are about to see a big novelty under the hood. The 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will come with a new, mild-hybrid powertrain option, based on a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four. This version will feature a max output of 330 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque.

The rest of the engine lineup will continue in the same way. Base models will continue to use a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which features a max output of 280 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, the Quadrifoglio will continue with a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, which puts out 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to move this SUV from zero to sixty in just 3.6 seconds.

Despite the updates, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio won’t arrive much earlier than usual. We expect to see it sometime in the last quarter of the year, with the starting price of around 47.000 dollars.

2023 Ford Bronco Sport

The Bronco Sport takes the best from both worlds. It is essentially a crossover, with lots of things in common with the Ford Escape. However, it also comes with pretty impressive off-road capabilities, which is no wonder, considering that it features 8.8 inches of ground clearance and also comes with various off-road hardware, such as various traction modes, locking rear differential, a low-speed cruise control system and a forward-facing camera.

The 2023 Bronco Sport will represent the third production year and while it’s still early for a mid-cycle update, some interesting novelties are about to come. According to rumors, we are about to see a hybrid powertrain. That would be the same system that powers the Maverick, which combines a 2.5-liter inline-four with an electric motor, for a total output of 191. The system doesn’t deliver some exceptional power figures but offers excellent fuel economy.

The rest of the powertrain lineup is about to remain the same. Base models will continue with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, which puts out around 180 horsepower, while range-topping models come with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out 250 horsepower.

The 2023 Ford Bronco Sport should feature a starting price of around 29.000 dollars.

2023 Lexus RX

The legendary mid-size luxury SUV is getting a full redesign, which is about to bring so many interesting novelties. The 2023 Lexus RX will be another model to switch to the new TNGA platform and the benefits will come in many ways. The new RX will be almost 200 pounds lighter, while we also expect to see improvements regarding handling and the overall driving experience.

Of course, we will see a completely new styling, more conservative compared to the previous generation. The interior redesign will also bring notable improvements, such as finer materials, even better build quality and more tech goodies. Speaking of the tech goodies,  the dashboard will be highlighted by a massive 14.0-inch infotainment screen.

The new generation will be offered with four powertrain options. Base models will come with a 2.4-liter turbo-four, which puts out 275 horsepower. The rest of the powertrain will be hybridized. The RX350h will come with a 246-hp system, based on a familiar 2.5-liter inline-four. The RX450h+ will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain, probably similar to the one found in the NX, though with a little bit more power. Finally, count on the new flagship model called RX500h, which will feature a hybrid system that puts out 367 horsepower.

The all-new 2023 Lexus RX will hit the market later this year, with a starting price of around 50.000 dollars.

2023 Jeep Wagoneer L

Jeep prepares big novelties for the second production year of the recently-revived Wagoneer. The full-size SUV will get a stretched version, which will compete with models like Ford Expedition Max and Chevy Suburban.

Compared to the standard version, it will feature a longer wheelbase, 130 inches. Such a size increase will bring many benefits, particularly in terms of passenger and cargo space. The third row of seats will offer more legroom, while the cargo volume behind that row will go up to 42 cubic feet. The total cargo volume will go up to 131 cubic feet, which is 14 cubes more than the standard version.

Still, the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L won’t bring just a longer wheelbase. It will also come with a new engine. Instead of the good-old HEMI V8, we will see a new, turbo inline-six engine called Hurricane. This engine will feature 3.0 liters in displacement and a max output of 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque. Just like the standard-wheelbase version, the Wagoneer L will also be able to tow 10.000 pounds.

We expect that the new version will hit the market this fall, with a starting price of around 63.000 dollars.

2023 Subaru Solterra

Subaru has just come up with its first all-electric vehicle. The new model is called Solterra and after many decades, we will see a Subaru without the iconic all-wheel-drive system. Instead, we will see a pair of electric motors, one on each axle, with a combined output of 215 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque. The new SUV offers a variety of drive modes, such as Eco, Normal, Power, and X-mode.

These electric motors are coupled with a 72.8-kWh battery pack, which ensures between 222 and 228 miles of range, depending on the version you pick. Also, you may count on a fast-charging option, with a 100-kWh DC charger, which is able to charge 80 percent of the battery in about 55 minutes.

The Solterra is based on Toyota’s TNGA platform and shares most parts with the bZ4X crossover. The styling is pretty similar, with the main differences, where Subaru’s model features a little bit more rugged appearance. On the inside, you will find a dashboard that is highlighted by a futuristically designed digital instrument cluster. On the other hand, the center part comes with a massive infotainment screen, while the center console keeps lots of physical controls.

The 2023 Subaru Solterra is already available, with a starting price of 46.220 dollars.
