Possible Engine Solutions

If the 2021 Mazda CX-7 arrives in the dealerships soon, most definitely it will use the SkyActiv technology. The first possible engine option worth of mention is the 2.5-liter four-cylinder mill. However, the total output will depend on the final size of the CX-7. If Mazda’s vehicle comes from the production line as a compact SUV, the engine will be turbocharged and it will make 250 hp.

On the other side, if the company decided to launch the crossover, the total output will be somewhere around 160 hp. Besides the petrol unit. the Japanese automaker uses a 2.2 turbodiesel. Well, that could be the second engine option for the CX-7. The turbodiesel mill is good for 170 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. But, this engine can meet US emission and efficiency standards. So, if the Mazda employs a diesel engine for the CX-7, it won’t be available in the States.

The third engine option for the 2021 Mazda CX-7 could be a hybrid. In that case, the company will decide to go with the crossover configuration. Well, Mazda needs such a vehicle in the roster. Moreover, the existing 2.5-liter unit could fit perfectly for the hybrid system.

This engine returns 28 mpg combined, and it can really upgrade the whole vehicle to another level. But, is it good enough to compete with Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4? Probably not. Still, if Mazda launches the hybrid, and with some tweaks in the future, who knows. Maybe the CX-7 becomes one of the most efficient hybrid vehicles on the market.
