One of the most interesting rumors around the Japanese automaker Mazda is the return of the famous CX-7 model. Well, this popular SUV is was really something special. The previous generation was in production from 2006 to 2012. Then, the company replaces it with the CX-5 model. Moreover, last year certain sources claim that the compact SUV is almost ready for production. But, that never happens. However, the company won’t leave an empty space in the roster, especially in such a competitive class. Therefore, most of the automotive experts assume that we will see 2021 Mazda CX-7 in the dealerships very soon.
Well, there’s another option. The model that will be produced in Japan as CX-8, could be named CX-7 for the markets outside the homeland. Moreover, the Japanese company is developing a hybrid version as well, which will be released in 2022.
Possible Engine Solutions
If the 2021 Mazda CX-7 arrives in the dealerships soon, most definitely it will use the SkyActiv technology. The first possible engine option worth of mention is the 2.5-liter four-cylinder mill. However, the total output will depend on the final size of the CX-7. If Mazda’s vehicle comes from the production line as a compact SUV, the engine will be turbocharged and it will make 250 hp.
On the other side, if the company decided to launch the crossover, the total output will be somewhere around 160 hp. Besides the petrol unit. the Japanese automaker uses a 2.2 turbodiesel. Well, that could be the second engine option for the CX-7. The turbodiesel mill is good for 170 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. But, this engine can meet US emission and efficiency standards. So, if the Mazda employs a diesel engine for the CX-7, it won’t be available in the States.
2021 Mazda CX-7 Could Get a Hybrid As Well
The third engine option for the 2021 Mazda CX-7 could be a hybrid. In that case, the company will decide to go with the crossover configuration. Well, Mazda needs such a vehicle in the roster. Moreover, the existing 2.5-liter unit could fit perfectly for the hybrid system.
This engine returns 28 mpg combined, and it can really upgrade the whole vehicle to another level. But, is it good enough to compete with Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4? Probably not. Still, if Mazda launches the hybrid, and with some tweaks in the future, who knows. Maybe the CX-7 becomes one of the most efficient hybrid vehicles on the market.
As for the design, and the overall shape and size of 2021 Mazda CX-7, there’s a lot of speculations. The fact is, we’re not 100% sure in which class we will see the CX-7. Mazda could decide to produce a coupe crossover SUV, Well, the good thing, in that case, is that there’s no much competition in that segment. The bad news is that this type of vehicle is not so popular among the customers. However, this could be a much-needed breakthrough for the company in this class. Therefore, the launch of the coupe crossover won’t come as a big surprise.
The interior could get a modern crossover design as well. We expect to see a lot of premium features and high-quality materials. For example, chrome accents, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a simplistic design would fit reply nice to the new model. On the other hand, the high-comfort is guaranteed when it comes to Mazda’s vehicles. The upcoming CX-7 won’t be different. So, expect to see a premium sound system, power-adjustable seats, and best possible safety.
