Although it’s been in North America since 2014, this design actually dates from 2012. By standards of the subcompact segment, this is way too much but somehow, this crossover remains active. Even though Chevy introduced the new Trailblazer, which features a similar size, the demand for its older brother is still high. Therefore, there is no doubt that the 2022 Chevy Trax will remain in production for another year. Considering that we probably won’t see bigger changes, we presume it should hit the market sometime late in the year.
As the design is about to remain the same, you may count on the same design characteristics. This crossover is small and very maneuverable, perfect for urban conditions. Furthermore, we like its quite long list of standard and available features, as well as a fairly high reliability rating.
Of course, its age clearly tells that you should be ready for some compromises. It offers an outdated interior design, while the ride quality definitely won’t impress you. Furthermore, the engine lacks power.
2022 Chevy Trax Redesign
When it comes to the 2022 Chevy Trax design, things definitely won’t change. We are about to see a familiar layout, based on the good-old Gamma II platform. Of course, the design is old, so there are some notable drawbacks. The biggest one goes to the suspension setup, which is pretty rudimental. That’s no wonder, considering that this model shares most of its parts with Opel Mokka.
On the other side, a good thing is that the styling was updated a few years ago. For that occasion, we saw a typical facelift, which has brought a completely new front end, which still looks modern and appealing. All in all, it’s hard to expect a bigger change for the next year, even in terms of new color options and similar minor updates.
Interior
The inside of the 2022 Chevy Trax definitely won’t change. You may count on the same dashboard design, which looks pretty outdated. Besides unattractive aesthetics, the whole cabin features mostly low-rent materials, such as hard plastics. Things like fit&finish aren’t particularly great either, but we could say that’s a typical thing for the segment.
When it comes to comfort and interior space, the front row accommodates adults with ease. However, seats could be better, especially in terms of support. The second row is typical for the segment, which means adults can fit, but taller passengers will certainly have trouble finding enough head and legroom.
When it comes to the cargo space, you may count on 18.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 48.4 cubic feet behind the first row. That’s quite average for the segment. Unfortunately, rumors say that the 2022 Trax won’t come with the folding passenger’s seat.
Features
Considering that this crossover is getting close to the end of the production cycle, we are pretty sure that Chevy won’t bother too much with additional standard equipment or reorganization of equipment groups. Therefore, you may expect that base models will come with features like keyless entry, 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, voice command, and two USB ports. Additionally, you can get things like cruise control and remote start.
Considering the model’s age, size and price, it’s no wonder that a rearview camera is the only standard safety feature. Fortunately, you can pay extra to get several options. Some of the highlights are things like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. As we already mentioned, the folding passenger’s seat won’t be available anymore.
2022 Chevy Trax Engine
Things under the hood definitely won’t change. The 2022 Chevy Trax will continue with a good-old 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four, which puts out 138 horsepower. That’s enough for a convenient city ride but definitely not great for an open road. The engine comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which works okay.
When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on about 26 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway. That’s about average for the class. When it comes to handling, things aren’t particularly engaging, but great maneuverability and small turning radius make it perfect for urban conditions.

Considering that there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Chevy Trax will hit the market sometime late in the year. The current model starts at around 22.000 dollars and we don’t expect a bigger increase in the future.
