2024 Toyota Fortuner Redesign: What We Know So Far

2024 Toyota Fortuner render

The roads of Australia and South East Asia are tough and demanding and for many drivers from these parts of the world, there is simply no room for modern unibody crossovers. Instead, they prefer classic body-on-frame SUVs and among them, the Fortuner is among the most popular ones. That’s not a surprise if we consider it shares most of its parts with the Hilux, one of the most iconic pickups of all time, famous for its toughness and durability. Now, it looks like the new generation of the capable SUV is on the way, as the 2024 Toyota Fortuner.

Currently, the officials are quite successful in keeping details about the next–generation Fortuner a secret. Still, we have no doubt that DNA will once again be shared with Hilux and that the overall approach won’t change. On the other hand, the new generation will be more modern, with new aesthetics, a more refined interior and new powertrain options.

We expect that the 2024 Toyota Fortuner could arrive already in late 2023 or in 2024.

So, the new generation of this capable mid-size SUV is expected to arrive soon but the officials are still quiet about details. On the other hand, we can easily predict some of the aspects of the new SUV. This particularly refers to the mechanical aspect of the vehicle. Just like the upcoming next-generation Hilux, the 2024 Toyota Fortuner will also ride on the new TNGA-F modular platform. It will remain a classic body-on-frame SUV, but the new architecture will provide notable weight savings and open up new possibilities regarding new powertrain options, new technologies etc.

The aspect where Fortuner was always different from the Hilux is the suspension setup and we have no doubt that they will remain in the future as well. So, we expect to see an independent rear suspension, which would provide a more comfortable ride and better handling.

Exterior

When it comes to exterior design, you can already find digital renderings on the internet, which show how the new 2024 Toyota Fortuner could look like. Some of them offer a more conventional look with the front end that has a lot in common with other Toyota SUVs and trucks that recently arrived, such as the new generations of Sequoia and Tundra. Others, however, suggest a more futuristic design approach, with new LED lighting and other exclusive details.

In any case, the overall shape will remain largely the same. We will see a classic SUV design, with a rugged stance and a lot of muscles, while even the dimensions shouldn’t change much. We presume that the new model will feature the same or similar wheelbase, along with other measurements, in order to retain the model’s strong off-road potential.

Interior

The outgoing generation of Fortuner features the same dashboard as Hilux and it actually looks pretty nice. It’s not the fanciest cabin around but it is enough car-like, with fine materials and very good build quality. Therefore, we don’t expect bigger surprises in this aspect for the next year. The 2024 Toyota Fortuner should bring an evolution of the current design, with slight improvements regarding style and materials, along with new tech features, which would include a bigger infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster and new connectivity features.

When it comes to seating configurations, the 2024 Toyota Fortuner will continue with three rows of seats and considering that exterior dimensions are about to remain the same, we might expect the amount of passenger space to remain the same as well. Therefore, you may count on two quite spacious and comfortable rows of seats, in a combination with the third row that’s tighter but still quite functional.

2024 Toyota Fortuner Engines

Under the hood, the Japanese carmaker is expected to offer a combination of new and proven solutions. We presume that the base offer will remain in the form of the good-old 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which puts out around 201 horsepower (150kW) and 500Nm of torque. However, the current 6-speed automatic would probably be replaced with a newer-generation, 8- or 10-speed unit.

The rest of the engine lineup should be about novelties. One of them could be the new 3.3-liter V6 turbodiesel with 304 horsepower, which could be offered in range-topping models in specific markets. On the other hand, the old 4.0-liter V6 petrol will probably be replaced with the new 2.4-liter turbo-four, which would offer a max output of 275 horsepower and 430Nm of torque. Some sources even speculate about a hybrid version based on this turbo-four, but we don’t see such a scenario particularly likely.
