The new Land Cruiser 300 came completely redesigned last year and there we are pretty sure it won’t feature more significant changes in the next few years. On the other hand, we are eagerly waiting to see some changes to the smaller Land Cruiser, which is also known as Land Cruiser Prado in some parts of the world. This model is codenamed LC 150, while the next generation will allegedly come with the LC 180 moniker.
Of course, we expect to see significant changes in various aspects. Simply, the current generation has been around for more than 13 years and despite the updates, it feels outdated in some aspects. That’s why we count on a lot of improvements. Naturally, the new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 180 will switch to the new TNGA-F platform and we expect it to be even more capable, with more capable engines, improved off-road features and other goodies. Naturally, the cabin should be even more luxurious, equipped with new tech features and other goodies.
We believe that the next-generation Land Cruiser Prado will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the full-size Land Cruiser 300 will carry on without changes. On the other hand, the smaller Land Cruiser 150 will get a full redesign. The new generation will come as the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 180 and we expect to see all kinds of novelties, which is no wonder if we consider that the current generation has been around for 13 years.
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. The new model will switch to the new TNGA-F architecture, which already underpins the new Land Cruiser 300, as well as models like Sequoia and Tundra. We presume that Toyota engineers will put focus on ride quality, which should be a little bit more engaging. That suggests a new suspension setup, while the new platform will also provide a lower center of gravity.
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 180 should offer better ride quality but on the other hand, we don’t expect any kind of trade-off in terms of off-road performance. The new model will also come with numerous off-road features, starting from the standard four-wheel drive, locking differentials, various traction control modes, hill-descent control and many more.
Exterior
When it comes to the exterior design, we expect to see a completely new styling. The new look should be adapted to the brand’s latest design language, with a lot of similarities with the bigger sibling. That particularly refers to the front-end design, which should look quite similar, though still with a few exclusive details.
On the other hand, we don’t expect bigger changes regarding the overall shape. We don’t expect bigger changes in size. Moreover, the wheelbase should also remain pretty similar, as we presume that Toyota engineers don’t want to sacrifice any of the model’s off-road potential.
Interior
The current generation features pretty impressive interior quality but also looks a little bit old. That’s no wonder if we consider that it’s been around for about 13 years. The new cabin should bring notable improvements regarding aesthetics, materials and attention to detail. We also count on all kinds of new tech features, including the new infotainment system, new connectivity features etc.
As we’ve just mentioned, the new generation should feature much bigger dimensions. Therefore, the amount of passenger space should remain similar. The first two rows of seats should be quite spacious and comfortable, while the third row will be tight and mostly for kids. The same situation is with the cargo area.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Engines
Big novelties are also coming under the hood. One of them is a diesel hybrid system. Allegedly, we would see the familiar 2.8-liter turbodiesel coupled with a mild-hybrid setup. Some sources even speculate about the classic hybrid setup, with a more capable electric motor. The current version of this diesel engine features a max output of 201 horsepower and 500Nm of torque.
A petrol hybrid is also expected, probably a setup that’s based on the new 2.4-liter turbo-four. Finally, some sources even talk about a performance version with a 3.3-liter V6 turbodiesel. This one was introduced with the new LC 300. This engine features a max output of 304 horsepower and 700Nm of torque. We presume it could be slightly detuned in this case.
We also expect that the old 6-speed automatic will be replaced with something more modern, probably an 8-speed unit.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Release Date
Although the officials are still quiet, many sources suggest that the new model could arrive already in the second half of 2023.
