2022 BMW X5 spy shot

The 2022 BMW X5 will enter its fourth production year and for that occasion, the Bavarian carmaker is preparing a mid-cycle update. The next year’s model is about to come with a lot of novelties, starting from an updated styling. We expect to see novelties on both ends of the vehicle. Furthermore, we should see some interior updates as well, particularly in terms of the new infotainment system. On the other hand, the engine lineup will probably remain the same.

Despite all the changes that are coming, the base of the 2022 BMW X5 won’t be much different compared to the current model. You may count on familiar characteristics, which means a lot of great things. This SUV comes with several pretty capable engines and offers engaging handling. Furthermore, we like the fact that the cabin is not just luxurious, but also very spacious and functional.

We expect to see the new model in the second half of the year.

2022 BMW X5 Redesign

As we already mentioned, this will be a typical facelift. The 2022 BMW X5 will come with a lot of changes and most of them will be in terms of styling. We are about to see an updated styling, with novelties on both ends of the vehicle. Of course, most of them will come to the front end. We are about to see a new fascia, as well as new headlights. Interestingly, headlights will keep the same shape, but the internal design will be different. The rear end will come with a couple of tweaks as well, with tweaked taillights and bumper. Of course, we also count on typical mid-cycle updates, such as new wheels, color options etc.

On the other side, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle will probably remain the same. That’s definitely not a bad thing, considering that the current model already offers a pretty impressive driving experience. Handling is excellent and the suspension setup is pretty sporty. At the same time, the ride isn’t too harsh but rather comfortable.

Interior

Interior updates are expected as well. From what we can see on the test mule, the dashboard is still covered with camouflage. Most likely, the main revisions will come to the center stack. We count on a new, bigger touchscreen, which will feature a similar shape to the one found in the new iX electric crossover.

Other than that, we could see some button reconfiguration on the center console, as well as some new materials and color schemes. The rest of the cabin will probably remain the same.

The overall cabin layout will remain the same, so you may count on the same amount of passenger space as well. Both rows are really generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. Also, the cargo area is pretty generous with space. You may count on about 33.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 72.3 cubic feet in total, which is pretty impressive for a mid-size luxury SUV.

Features

Of course, this update should bring novelties to the list of standard features. However, keep in mind that the current model is already equipped pretty well, so the number of novelties probably won’t be too big. For reference, the current model already comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10-speaker stereo, a touchpad controller, voice recognition, Bluetooth, five USB ports, navigation, HD Radio, and satellite radio. We presume that some of the possible additions to the list of standard equipment could be wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hot spot, remote start and similar things.

2022 BMW X5 Engines

We don’t expect to see changes under the hood for the next year. Therefore, the engine offer should start with a well-known 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that makes 335 horsepower and provides driving dynamics that will satisfy most drivers. The next one in the line is the recently introduced plug-in hybrid version, which uses the same engine but gets help from an electric motor. The combined output goes up to 389 horsepower, which is enough to move this large SUV from zero to sixty in about 5.3 seconds.

The M50i will be the next one on the offer. This model features a 4.4-liter V8 engine, which is good for about 523 horsepower. That’s enough power for a 0-60 sprint in just 4.1 seconds. Finally, there is the M model, which is good for 603 horsepower and hits sixty in less than four seconds.

All models come with 8-speed automatic transmission.
