The Hummer is coming back. This time, it won’t come as a separate brand, but rather as a completely new model, under the GMC badge. Actually, changes are far more significant than that. We are about to see the new iteration in a completely different nature compared to the previous generation. Once a terrible gas guzzler, the new 2022 GMC Hummer will now be an environment-friendly, efficient vehicle, which comes with an all-electric powertrain.
At this point, we know a lot about the new 2022 GMC Hummer. The previous generations were available in various body styles and the new one won’t be an exception. The pickup variant will come first and will be followed by the SUV. Also, the most powerful version will come first, with a max output of 1.000 horsepower. Of course, the styling will closely resemble the original model, while the cabin is bringing something quite unique and very interesting. We expect sales to start in the second half of the year.
2022 GMC Hummer Redesign
As you may presume, the 2022 GMC Hummer will closely resemble its predecessors. Just one look at the styling and it’s super-easy to realize that not many things have changed compared to the model that originally arrived three decades ago. Of course, everything looks far more modern but the overall shape is pretty familiar. We are still talking about a military-inspired design, which now adds loads of futuristic bits, especially at the front, where you can find a familiar grille layout in a new manner, as well as full-LED headlights.
While the styling closely resembles the previous generation, the mechanical aspect of the 2022 GMC Hummer is a completely new story. GM has developed a completely new platform, which will undeprint a variety of EV models from this company in the future. We’ve already mentioned that the pickup version is about to come first. The SUV body style will come a little bit later.
Interior
While the outside of the new 2022 GMC Hummer looks pretty familiar, the interior is a completely new story. Unlike the previous version, which was rather Spartan and full of cheap materials, the new one looks far more upscale. Of course, aesthetics are still in a pretty rugged manner, while you can easily notice the presence of all kinds of advanced tech features, including a massive 13.4-inch touchscreen. The instrument cluster is also digital and measures typical 12.3 inches diagonally.
The cabin is full of details and we are pretty sure that most of you will easily notice the presence of a moon-boot footprint on the dead pedal and speaker grilles, which is a kind of tribute to GM’s participation in the development of Apolo 15 lunar rover.
More importantly, the new cabin is significantly less claustrophobic compared to previous Hummers. Glass surfaces are much bigger and will make everyone feel more pleasant on the inside. We have no doubt that the visibility will be improved as well.
The pickup version will come first, as we already mentioned, and it will come in a crew cab layout. Also, you may count on removable doors and roof, similar to what we can see in Jeep Wrangler. On the other side, the SUV version will come soon after, and we expect to see both two- and three-row seating configurations in the offer.
2022 GMC Hummer Drivetrain
The most significant difference compared to the previous generation will be in terms of the drivetrain. This will be an all-electric vehicle and we are about to see several configurations in the offer, in terms of power and battery capacity.
Interestingly, the most powerful version is about to come first. It will feature three electric motors, an all-wheel drive and a total output of 1.000 horsepower. The company claims max torque of 11.500 lb-ft. Still, we presume that real-world numbers will rather be around 1.100 pound-feet of torque. With such power, there is no doubt that the 2022 GMC Hummer will be extremely quick. GM officials say it will need just 3 seconds to hit 60 miles per hour.
GM has developed a new battery called Ultium. The exact capacity, in this case, is still a mystery, but rumors say this model will be able to make around 350 miles on a single charge. Of course, you may count on all kinds of charging options, including a fast charger that will allow adding 100 miles in just 10 minutes.
2022 GMC Hummer Release Date and Price
We expect to see the first models of the 2022 GMC Hummer already in the second half of the year. As we already mentioned, the most capable versions will come first and it will cost around 112.000 dollars. In the future, base variants will probably go around 80.000 dollars. Some of the potential rivals are Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, Rivian R1S etc.
