The aging current-generation GX desperately needs some updates and fortunately, they are coming very soon. According to the latest reports, the new generation is finally coming and we certainly have big expectations from it. The new model will arrive after nearly 15 years, so there is no doubt that the changes will be significant in all aspects. At this point, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials on this matter. On the other hand, rumors suggest the arrival of the new model already in the next year, with the 2024 Lexus GX 460.
One of the things that come to mind first is the moniker. There’s a big change that the “460” will be replaced with some other number, as there is no doubt that the new generation will be powered with something newer. We also count on a new platform, as well as on improvements in terms of efficiency, ride quality etc.
The all-new 2024 Lexus GX 460 should arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 Lexus GX 460 Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, there are all kinds of novelties to come with this update. Of course, the first thing we should talk about is the platform. Just like other models in Toyota’s BoF lineup, the 2024 Lexus GX 460 will also ride on the new TNGA-F platform, which will bring benefits in many aspects. One of the first things that come to mind is weight reduction, as we expect to see a massive use of lightweight materials. Also, the new platform should provide a notably lower center of gravity, which should have a highly positive effect on handling and overall performance.
The GX has always been a great off-roader, so we expect nothing less from the new model. We count on all kinds of off-road upgrades, but also on a more refined suspension setup, which would ensure a smoother on-road ride as well.
Exterior
When it comes to exterior design, there is no doubt that the new generation will bring a lot of changes. Of course, we are talking about the completely new styling, which should follow the brand’s latest design language, similar to what we’ve recently seen in the full-size LX.
While there are completely new aesthetics to come, the overall shape should change much. We count on similar proportions, while the overall proportions shouldn’t change much either. This also refers to the wheelbase, which should remain the same or very similar. In that way, the Japanese manufacturer will once again sacrifice a little bit of interior space for the sake of off-road potential.
Interior
Not many things have changed during this long production of the current generation. Therefore, we have no doubt that the new generation will bring significant upgrades, whether it’s about style or quality. Naturally, we expect to see a completely new dashboard design, along with nicer materials and further improvements regarding build quality and attention to detail.
As there are no significant changes in terms of size to come, we presume that the amount of passenger space will also remain pretty similar. Most likely, base versions will come with a couple of roomy and comfortable rows of seats. On the other hand, the optional third row probably won’t be all that generous. Instead, it will work mainly for kids.
The cabin should also come fully equipped with all kinds of advanced tech goodies, including massive screens, advanced driver-assist features, convenience features etc.
2024 Lexus GX 460 Engines
This is one of the most intriguing aspects of the next-generation 2024 Lexus GX 460. After all, we already mentioned that the “460” will probably be replaced with some other numbers. Currently, there are a couple of possibilities for the GX’s powertrain. One of them is to see Toyota’s new 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, in its slightly detuned variant, probably with around 350 horsepower.
Another possibility is to see the 2024 Lexus GX 460 equipped with a hybrid setup. Most likely, we would see a setup that combines a turbo-four engine with electric motors, where the combined output would go somewhere around 350 horsepower.
2024 Lexus GX 460 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Lexus GX 460 will arrive sometime in the second half of the next year. Base models should go around 55.000 dollars.

I got excited at the prospect of the 2024 GX using the hybrid version of the TTV6 engine. They have other examples between a Toyota and Lexus of both hybrid and non hybrid uses of the TTV6. I like the idea of the hybrid version, since the electric motor would compensate for the turbo lag off-the-line and provide a 0-60 time well below 6 sec.
It would be disappointing to have it be a 2.4 liter 4 cyl on a luxury SUV that should have descent performance.
