2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Redesign: What to Expect

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado render

The full-size Land Cruiser has been redesigned last year and now everyone has big expectations from the smaller version, known as Prado. It looks like the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is about to come completely redesigned. This is not a surprise, considering that the current model has been around since 2009. Despite the several updates, as well as the fact that the current model still has a lot of good things to offer, the SUV needs this update to remain relevant.

Once again, we expect to see a long of novelties from this redesign, which is no wonder if we consider that the current generation has been around for almost 15 years. The next-generation model will get a new platform, along with all kinds of technological and design upgrades. Among them, you may count on new powertrain options, including a hybrid powertrain. We are still waiting for the officials to confirm these expectations.

When it comes to the launch date, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado should arrive sometime in the second half of the next year.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the current generation has been around since 2009, so it’s no wonder that many aspects of the vehicle seem a little bit outdated. So, what we are about to see is a completely new platform. Just like other BoF models in Toyota’s lineup, the new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will also ride on the TNGA-F platform, which will bring novelties in various aspects.

One of the most important novelties we expect to see is the new suspension setup, which should improve on-road manners. At the same time, we don’t expect off-road performances to be compromised in any way. The new model will be more comfortable, but it will also be more capable off the road.

Exterior

When it comes to exterior design, the first thing that comes to mind is size. Considering that the bigger Land Cruiser 300 kept pretty similar dimensions as its predecessor, we expect the same thing from this one. So, you may expect around 2.800mm (110 inches), while the rest of the measurements should remain pretty similar as well.

Of course, the next generation should bring a completely new styling. At this point, it’s still early to talk about details but we are pretty sure that most changes will be evolutionary. The overall shape should remain pretty similar, while the front end will probably take some inspiration from the new LC300, as well as other models in the lineup, such as Tundra and Sequoia.

Interior

The current cabin has been updated a few times during this long production cycle but it still looks a little bit old. So, there is no doubt that Toyota designers will bring up a completely new cabin design, with a dashboard that looks more modern and utilizes even finer materials. Of course, we also count on lots of novelties regarding new tech features. For example, the current 9-inch infotainment screen will probably be replaced with a bigger 12.3-inch unit, while a digital instrument cluster should also be part of the standard equipment.

Considering that the overall size is about to remain pretty much the same, we may expect a similar amount of passenger room as well. So, you may count on a couple of pretty spacious and comfortable rows of seats, while the third row will remain tight and mostly for kids.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Engines

Big novelties are expected under the hood as well.

First of all, the current 2.8-liter turbodiesel will probably carry on. It could come coupled with a  mild 48-V hybrid system, which would improve the economy and reduce emissions. Still, we presume that the max output would remain the same, around 150kW (201hp) and 500Nm (370lb-ft) of torque.

Other than the familiar turbodiesel, the new generation could also be offered with the new turbo-four in some parts of the world, with a max output of 275 horsepower.

Finally, there is a chance for a hybrid version, which would be based on the same turbo-four engine and feature a max output of around 350 horsepower.

All units would come with a  new 8- or 10-speed transmission. Of course, four-wheel drive will be standard, just like the whole bunch of other off-road goodies, such as low-range gearing, locking differential, various traction control modes etc.
