Ford’s flagship SUV has been considered to be one of the best models in the class in the last couple of years. The current generation has been around for just a couple of years and we are pretty sure that the next-year 2021 Ford Expedition Max will come without more important changes, even though the competition is getting stronger these days. This particularly refers to the new Chevy Suburban, which is coming completely new for the next model year. However, the Blue Oval company won’t rush with changes, so things will remain pretty much the same.
This means you may count on the biggest SUVs on the market, which offers plenty of passenger room and an even more impressive amount of cargo space. Furthermore, this SUV offers pretty impressive ride quality and comes with a long list of standard and available equipment. Finally, the engine is capable and efficient. The 2021 Ford Expedition Max should hit the market sometime late in the year.
2021 Ford Expedition Max Design
In terms of base design characteristics, we definitely won’t bring any particular change. The current generation is still pretty fresh and it’s too early for more important updates. Therefore, you may count on the same design, which has been introduced two years ago. It is based on the current-generation F-150 and uses the same lightweight chassis.
As you may presume, the biggest difference compared to the standard Expedition is the size. This model is notably longer and measures 131.6 inches in wheelbase and nearly 222 inches in the overall length. With such numbers, it’s no wonder that you may count on plenty of space on the inside.
Other than size, you won’t notice any particular differences in terms of the styling. The front end looks pretty much identical, just like the rest of the vehicle.
The same story goes for interior design. If you compare two dashboards, you won’t see any particular difference. There is the same familiar layout, which may look a little bit truckish for a flagship SUV but definitely features high overall quality. Materials are fine, while everything seems pretty solid and durable. Moreover, higher trims look pretty upscale and quite luxurious.
Obviously, the biggest difference compared to the standard model is in interior space. This model offers notably more cargo room, while the passenger room isn’t actually much different compared to the base model. Therefore, you may count on pretty impressive 43.9 inches of legroom in the first row, while the second and third rows also offer more than 40 inches of legroom. That’s something you won’t find in many other models on the market.
The most impressive thing about this SUV is the cargo area. You may count on about 36 cubic feet behind the third row, 79.6 cubic feet behind the second row, and a maximum of 121.5 cubic feet of cargo volume with third and second row folded.
We might see a couple of additions to the list of standard equipment for the next year but we have no doubt that most of the things will remain the same as in the current model. Currently, the base model comes standard with tech goodies like an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, voice recognition, four USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Additionally, you can get things like third-row USB ports, wireless device charging, a household-style power outlet, navigation, a rear-seat entertainment system, HD Radio, premium audio system and more.
When it comes to safety features, all models come standard with goodies like automatic high-beam headlights, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and forward automatic emergency braking. Additionally, you can get systems like rain-sensing windshield wipers, front parking sensors, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, a surround-view parking camera etc.
2021 Ford Expedition Max Engine
Things under the hood definitely won’t change for the next year. The 2021 Ford Expedition Max will carry on with a familiar 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which comes in two output variants. Base versions are good for about 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. In higher trim levels, the engine gets a slight power boost and puts out 400 horses and 480 pound-feet of torque. In both cases, it comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
When it comes to fuel economy, this engine returns around 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. These are pretty solid ratings for the class.
2021 Ford Expedition Max Release Date and Price
Considering that there are no bigger changes to come, we are pretty sure that the 2021 Ford Expedition Max won’t come before the last quarter of the year. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect changes either. So, base models should go around 56.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Chevy Suburban, Toyota Sequoia etc.
