The new generation of Range Rover’s mid-size iteration is here, better than ever, we would say. The new model has just debuted and brings a completely new design, despite the subtle, evolutionary aesthetical changes. While the exterior looks conventional, things under the hood changed significantly, starting with the new platform, new suspension setups and lots of new tech solutions and features. The North American version is also here and it will be offered with three engines, all pretty capable.
The 2023 Range Rover Sport brings a lot of improvements. Compared to the previous generation, it looks more elegant, both outside and inside. The new tech features make it more relevant against German competitors, while the new suspension setup offers better on-road manners, without sacrificing off-road performances. The engine lineup includes not just inline-six and V8 units, but also a pretty capable plug-in hybrid, which is reserved for the Autobiography trim level.
2023 Range Rover Sport Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Range Rover Sport comes with a completely new design. Of course, the first thing you’ll notice is the styling. It doesn’t bring radical changes but it looks notably different compared to the previous model. It feels sleeker and bolder, thanks to the new design language that’s shared with the flagship Range Rover. The two models have a lot of things in common, not just in terms of aesthetics.
What’s also worth mentioning is that the new model is bigger. For example, the wheelbase gains almost three inches. The mechanics are completely new, starting from the new MLA-Flex platform, which brings not just novelties in terms of chassis and suspension setup, but also opens up lots of new possibilities regarding electrification, new tech and safety features etc. Speaking of the suspension setup, all models come standard with adjustable air suspension, which offers a smooth ride but also keeps off-road potential at a high level.
Interior
The cabin design brings big improvements, both in terms of aesthetics and quality. The dashboard features a minimalistic design, with clean lines and really nice materials. That elegant design is complemented by modern tech features, including two massive screens – a digital instrument cluster and a nice-looking, tablet-like infotainment screen. On the other hand, the center console kept few physical controls, which makes operation easier, especially when it comes to climate settings, drive modes etc.
The seats are massive and supportive, and offer a high level of comfort. Just like the previous generation, base models accommodate five passengers, while the third row is optional. Thanks to the longer wheelbase, there is more legroom than before but the third row is still too small to accommodate adults in a proper way.
Features
Of course, you may also count on more standard and available features than before. All models come standard with power-adjustable seats, as well as with tech goodies like a 13.1-inch curved touchscreen and an even larger 13.7-inch screen that displays the gauges. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are also standard, just like Amazon’s Alexa and wireless smartphone charging pad.
Among available upgrades, you can find 22-way adjustable seats, as well as massage, ventilation, and winged headrests. Also, you can opt for an air purification system, a 29-speaker audio system etc.
2023 Range Rover Sport Engines
Under the hood, the 2023 Range Rover Sport comes with three engines and four powertrain configurations. Base models come with the new 3.0-liter inline-six from the JLR’s family of Ingenium engines. The engine puts out around 355 horsepower and offers more than decent performance. The same engine is available in a variant with 395 horsepower, which offers notably better driving dynamics.
Also, there is a new plug-in hybrid setup, which combines the inline-six with an electric motor, for a total output of 434 horsepower. Finally, there is the First Edition, which uses BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, which puts out around 523 horsepower, which is enough to ensure 0-60 spring in just 4.3 seconds.
All units come coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
2023 Range Rover Sport Pricing
The base 2023 Range Rover Sport starts at around $85.000. The plug-in hybrid is available at around 105.000 dollars, while the range-topping models with V8 engine start at around 123.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Porsche Cayenne, Maserati Levante, BMW X5 etc.
